On Wednesday April 18th,  Oakland High School Senior Cameron Benzel, in front of family, friends, and mentors signed to play basketball with the Umpqua Community College RiverHawks.  Benzel, the Mountain View Conference MVP and 2A 1st Team All-State honoree, averaged 13 points, 11 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks as a senior.  He set the Oakland High School record for rebounding in a season with 328 boards and also set the all-time mark with 635 formerly held by former UCC player Jason Simmons.  Benzel stands at 6'6 with a 6'9 wingspan and is known as a versatile forward.  Head Coach Daniel Leeworthy had this to say about Benzel, "We love his ability to rebound above the rim. He is a very skilled player who can do multiple things at an exceptional level. We have got to know him and his family and know he will be successful and happy here.  We are very pleased with his signing today.  He is a terrific player and person."
