RiverHawk Women’s Basketball Sweeps Through Washington

The Umpqua RiverHawk Women's Basketball team travelled to Bellevue, Washington and came home with three more wins, to move their overall record to 7-0.

The weekend started out well, with an 83-34 victory over Highline College. The RiverHawks led 44-16 at the half and cruised to the final margin. Dajanay Powell and Taylor Stricklin led the RiverHawks with 22 points each. Jordan Stotler pitched in with 12 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals and 5 blocked shots. Bria Thames was the other RiverHawk in double figure scoring with 10 points.

Game number two started with a familiar tone, as Umpqua led Bellevue 21-12 at the end of the 1st quarter. Bellevue would battle back and close the gap to as few as five points, before the RiverHawks were able to close out the game with an 87-79 victory.

Powell once again led a balanced scoring effort with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Taylor Stricklin and Bria Thames each had 16 points, followed by Jordan Stotler with 14 and Alyssa Grenfell with 10.

Game number three turned out to be the most difficult of the trip for the RiverHawks, as the faced off with North Idaho College. The 1st quarter was back and forth, with Umpqua leading 20-17 at the end of the 1st ten minutes. The 2nd period was a dominant one for the RiverHakws, as they outscored NIC 23-9, to lead 43-26 at the break. The 2nd half of the game saw NIC out-score UCC as the game would get as close as 5 points in the final minutes. The RiverHawks were able to hold on, for an 85-80 victory.

Taylor Stricklin led the RiverHawks with 24 points, followed by Daisy Powell with 21, Jordan Stotler with 14 and Bria Thames with 11. Stotler led the team with 19 rebounds.
