Women and Men Sweep the Titans

Women and Men Sweep the Titans

If you were unable to make it to the basketball games last night in the UCC Gym, you missed an amazing showdown. The RiverHawks women's team pulled off a come-from-behind, overtime victory over Lane Community College. The final score was 78-73.

In front of a full house, the Lady RiverHawks managed to close a double-digits point gap over the fourth quarter. With literally seconds left in the game, Tynesha Parnell nailed a three-point shot to drive the game into overtime.

The crowd was cheering so loudly that a UCC security officer, who was performing building sweeps, came to the gym to see what was happening. He said he could hear the commotion all the way to Jackson Hall. He arrived just in time for the overtime tip-off.

Taylor Stricklin ruled the board in overtime, netting the majority of the points in the five-minute OT that ultimately led the RiverHawks to victory. Stricklin and Dajanay Powell each scored 16 points. Bria Thames led the team with 28 points. The team remains undefeated this season; 21-0.

The men's team also scored a victory last night over Lane; 100-75. Eric Klekas led the team with 31 points.

Both teams return to the UCC Gym this Saturday, Feb. 3, to host Mt. Hood Community College. Come out and show your support! The women's game starts at 2 p.m.; the men's game starts at 4 p.m.
