Stricklin Wins Champion in the Community Award

Umpqua Community College Sophomore Taylor Stricklin, has been awarded the 1st Annual Champions in the Community, Community Service Scholarship, sponsored by Bigfoot Beverage Distributors.

The UCC Department of Athletics and Bigfoot Beverages have partnered to create an award for the RiverHawk student-athlete that compiles the largest number of community service hours during the school year. Bigfoot Beverages provides $1000 yearly to the UCC Foundation, to fund the scholarship.

Stricklin, a sophomore member of the RiverHawk Women's Basketball Team, completed over 70 hours of community service, while working in the UCC Champions in the Community service platform. She performed work for many different groups, including Winchester and Green Elementary Schools, the Oakland School District and the Boy's and Girl's Club of Roseburg, to name a few.

The UCC Department of Athletics completed over 1000 hours of community service during the 2017-18 school year and are hoping to increase the number of hours to over 2000, during the upcoming 2018-19 school year.
