Hawks Soar Into the New Year with 13-0 Record

The UCC Women's Basketball team concludes the 2019 portion of their season by staying undefeated, 13-0. This weekend, the RiverHawks played in the LCC Red Devils Holiday Classic and went 3-0 to win the tournament. The Hawks are ranked first going into league play come January.

On Friday, December 27th, the RiverHawks faced the Centralia Trailblazers, who they faced once before this season, beating them by 6 more points than they did last time. The overall score was 79-54. The first quarter really pushed the Hawks ahead as they lead 24-6. Cielo Gonzalez led the team with 19 points, followed closely by Hunter Boske with 18. Sienna Riggle snagged 13 rebounds and Darian Mitchell snagged 11. Cielo Gonzalez also had 7 steals during the game.

On Saturday, December 28th, the Hawks went up against Yakima Valley and won 97-78. Another big first quarter boosted the Hawks, as they were up 39-18 going into the second. Four starters went into double digits, with two getting double-doubles. Darian Mitchell led the team with 28 points, matching her career-high. She was followed by Cielo Gonzalez with 23 points, Grace Campbell with 19, and Sienna Riggle with 10. Grace Campbell and Sienna Riggle led the team with 12 rebounds each, giving them a double-double on the night. Cielo Gonzalez had another 7 steals, and Lainey Rincon had 6.

On Sunday, December 29th, the Hawks played Mt. Hood and won 70-65. Grace Campbell led the Hawks in points and rebounds as she scored a career-high 21 points, and grabbed 13 rebounds to give herself another double-double over the weekend. Both Darian Mitchell and Cielo Gonzalez each had 15 points (Gonzalez went 7-7 at the free-throw line). Sienna Riggle pulled down 7 rebounds. Overall, the Hawks forced the Saints to 16 turnovers.

Grace Campbell was named the tournament MVP, and Darian Mitchell and Cielo Gonzalez both made the all-tournament team. 

Saturday, January 4th will mark the beginning of league play for the RiverHawks as they face Clark College at 2pm at their home court. The women's team will be followed by the men at 4pm.
