Members of the 2016-17 Umpqua Community College Men’s Basketball Team visited the two first grade classrooms at Winchester Elementary School to participate in the “Champions Read” program. “Champions Read” is part of the Umpqua Community College Department of Athletics “Champions in the Community” service platform. “Champions Read” consists of members of UCC athletic teams reading to the first grade classrooms and providing a book for each student on each visit. In addition, each classroom will be provided a set of books, as well as individual copies of each book read, for the children to use.  The Men’s Basketball Team’s visit will be followed by the Volleyball Team in early February. So far, the Champions Read program has donated over 180 books to the first grade students at Winchester Elementary School.
