Coach Freund grew up in Bozeman Montana, and played for the Bozeman Bucks all 4 years of his high school career. His high school team won the state championship and finished as regional runners-up during his senior year in 2019.He played at UCC for 3 years, where he switched from shortstop to pitcher in his last year. Coach Freund played his last year of college baseball at the University of Oregon in 2024. He coached in the Roseburg Legion program in 2021, and the Bozeman Bucks legion program in the summers of 2022 and 2023.
