OREGON CITY — The Umpqua Community College women's basketball team opened its season with a dominating 93-53 win over Pierce Friday night in the first round of the Clackamas Thanksgiving Invitational.

Freshman post Jordan Stotler had a double-double in her debut for the Riverhawks. The Roseburg High graduate had 29 points and 10 rebounds, and added five steals and four assists in 27 minutes.

Redshirt freshman post Dejanay Powell also turned in a double-double with 25 points and 13 boards, and blocked three shots. Bria Thames contributed 10 points as eight of the nine Riverhawks who saw action scored.

Ashley Backen, a Roseburg graduate, contributed five points and four rebounds for UCC, which led 49-20 at halftime. The Riverhawks outrebounded Pierce, 54-35, and shot 52 percent (36 of 69) from the field in the game.

Umpqua was credited with 25 assists on 36 field goals, with Tasia Bilbrew leading the way with six. Victoria Mukisa had 13 points and six rebounds for the Raiders, who shot 27 percent (18 of 66) from the field and committed 22 turnovers.

"It was a good first win," said UCC coach Dave Stricklin. "The girls got a chance to get the nerves out of the way. They didn't have an answer for Daisy (Powell) and Jordan (Stotler) inside."

UCC will meet Olympic, a 68-52 winner over Mt. Hood, at 4 p.m. today in the semifinals.
