RiverHawks Sign Parnell

RiverHawks Sign Parnell

Umpqua Community College Women’s Basketball Coach Dave Stricklin has announced that Tynesha Parnell, a 5’6 point guard from Cleveland High School (Portland, OR) has signed a Letter of Intent to compete with the RiverHawks during the 2017-18 season.

Parnell will bring with her a long list of high school accomplishments and a playing style that will fit perfectly with her new teammates. Some of her career highlights include; being named an Esmark High School All-American,  being nominated for the McDonalds All-American game, named by The Oregonian as one of Oregon’s Top 20 Shooters (girls & boys), and was twice named 1st Team All Portland Interscholastic League. She was also one of 16 high school girls from across the country to participate in the American Family Insurance 3-point shooting contest.

While at Cleveland, Parnell played varsity basketball all four years and as a senior averaged 17.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 3.3 steals per game.  Her single game scoring high came in December, 2016 against Aloha High School, when she scored 41 points. Parnell is also an outstanding student, looking to major in Sports Medicine.

Coach Stricklin had this to say about his newest signee,”Tynesha shoots the ball very well and is also active in all parts of the game. But, what impressed me the most is that despite her ability to score, Tynesha is constantly sharing the ball and keeping all her teammates involved in the offense. That type of unselfish play is contagious and is exactly how we look to play here at UCC.”

Parnell will join an Umpqua team that is coming off a 29-3 season and a trip to the NWAC Final 4.
