Women's Wrestling has Great Success at West Coast Tournament of Champions

The UCC Women's Wrestling team made their way to 3rd place (out of 9 teams) with 95.5 points in the team duals on Friday, December 20th. They were short of 2nd place by just 11 points. During the open tournament on Saturday, December 21st, 5 RiverHawks claimed podium spots!

At the 101 weight class, Esthela Trevino was undefeated going 3-0, and won the individual title. Trevino won the first match by TF, 10-0; the second match by fall at 1:23; and the third match again by TF, 10-0. Not one point was scored on Trevino during the individual tournament.

At the 143 weight class, Grace Miller found 3rd on the podium and went 3-1 overall. Miller won the first match by fall at 4:37; lost the second match by 12-6 decision; won the third match by fall at 0:28 (which was the 3rd fastest fall overall in the tournament), and won the final match by fall at 1:44 to claim 3rd place.

Two Hawks competed at the 155 weight class and found the podium: Lillian Restrepo 2nd and Abraham Jolley 4th. Both won their first matches: Restrepo by TF 12-1 and Jolley by fall at 1:39. Restrepo went on to win the second match by fall at 2:30, while Jolley fell at 1:39. Restrepo went on in the title match and took 2nd, losing by TF 11-0. Jolley continued on to win the third match by fall at 1:19, but fell in the 4th match at 0:42 to claim 4th overall.

At the 170 weight class, Jade Piper was the other Hawk to win the individual title and went 4-0 overall. Piper won by TF 10-0 (1st match), again by TF 10-0 (second match), by fall at 1:01 (third match), and by TF 11-0 in the tital match. Piper also did not allow a single point to be scored on her on the day. During the team duals, Piper led the entire tournament in the most team points garnering 25.5 total, and was second overall in the most total match points with 35.

The RiverHawks have concluded the 2019 portion of their season and will entire the New Year at the Gut Check in Kent, WA on Thursday, January 2nd.
