Men's Basketball Goes 3-0 at Shoreline Crossover

The UCC Men's Basketball team went 3-0 this week at the Shoreline Crossover in Washington. They had to fight in each of their games, coming back from a deficit in the first half of the first game, and close scores at the half in the other two games. The RiverHawks are now 12-1 overall.

On Tuesday, December 17th, the Hawks played Green River CC. At half, the Hawks were down 26-38, they came back in the second half and out-scored the Gators 49-18, to win the game 75-56. All five starters went into double digits, and Cameron Benzel led the Hawks with 18 points. Brock Gilbert and Akoi Yuot each had 15 points (Gilbert's season-high), Isaac Lungren had 13 points, and Cody Fredrickson had 12. Cameron Benzel and Brock Gilbert also each had a double-double. Cameron Benzel snagged 10 rebounds during the game which contributed to the team total 39. Brock Gilbert dished out 13 assists, and also led the team with 7 steals (career-high). The RiverHawks forced the Gators to 17 total turnovers.

On Wednesday, December 18th, the RiverHawks faced Shoreline CC. At the half UCC was up by two at 38-36, and they went on to win the game 91-69. Cameron Benzel had another great game and led the team with 25 points, making that his new career-high. Three other Hawks also went into double digits as Akoi Yuot had 13 points, Brock Gilbert with 12, and Ben Perry with 10. Cameron Benzel also led the team in rebounds, giving him his second double-double this week, with 11 rebounds. Brock Gilbert also recorded his second double-double this week, by dishing out another 12 assists. Overall the Hawks out-rebounded the Dolphins 43-17; and they shot 75% from the free throw line.

On Thursday, December 19th, the Hawks went up against Columbia Basin. The RiverHawks led by five at the half 39-34, and won the game 90-75. Five players went into double-digits this game, as Isaac Lungren led with 18 points, followed by Brock Gilbert and Hayden Wood with 14 each, Cody Fredrickson with 12, and Akoi Yuot with 11. Akoi Yuot had 11 rebounds, giving him his first career double-double. Cameron Benzel was close to getting his third double-double, as he led the team with 12 rebounds, and was shy of 1 point, scoring 9 total. Brock Gilbert was in the same boat, but was also just shy by 1, with 9 assists this game.

Cameron Benzel has now recorded 8 career double-doubles, 6 of those from this season; and Brock Gilbert has recorded 3 career double-doubles, 2 being from this season during this tournament.

Your RiverHawks have concluded play for the rest of 2019. They will be back in action at Home on Saturday, January 4th against Clark. The women play at 2pm, followed by the men at 4pm. This will also start the beginning of conference play for the season. Go Hawks!
