RiverHawks Roll to Open the Season

The RiverHawk Women's Basketball team travelled to Clackamas Community College over the weekend and came home with three victories, to move to 4-0 on the season.

Umpqua opened up the tournament with a 99-53 victory over Olympic College. In the victory, Dajanay Powell led the team with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Bria Thames was close behind with 20 points and 8 rebounds and Jordan Stotler finished with 16 points and 8 blocked shots.

In the second game the RiverHawks faced off against fellow Southern Region team Southwestern Oregon and came away with a 98-53 win. Umpqua was on top 52-27 at the half and never looked back. Powell once again led the team in scoring with 18 points, tying for team-high honors with freshman Taylor Stricklin. Bria Thames chipped in with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Off of the bench, Lily Eckert collected 11 points and a game-high 16 rebounds.

The third game of the weekend came against perennial NWAC Tournament participant and Southern Region rival, Clackamas Community College. The game started off like all of the game have this season, with the RiverHawks taking a resounding 28-10 lead after the first quarter. The momentum would change from then on, with the Cougars outscoring Umpqua 57-44. Fortunately for the RiverHawks, the early cushion would prove to be enough, as they held on for a 72-67 victory over the Cougars.

Taylor Stricklin led the team with 21 points, including five 3-pt shots and was followed by Jordan Stotler, who posted a double/double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Dajanay Powell and Bria Thames also posted double/doubles with 16 points and 16 rebounds for Powell and 14 points and 15 rebounds for Thames.

With the wins, the RiverHawks move to 4-0 on the season.
