Women's Basketball Undefeated, Now 10-0

The UCC Women's Basketball team played in the Tacoma Crossover this past weekend, and while it was a tough weekend, they remain undefeated. The RiverHawks now have a record of 10-0.

The first game of the weekend was on Saturday, December 14th, against Tacoma CC with a final score of 74-36. The points were spread out for the Hawks, but three led with 10 points: Cielo Gonzalez, Sienna Riggle, and Jalisa Simons. Mariam Yaro had 8 rebounds, followe by Darian Mitchell with 7, to contribute to the team total of 48. The Hawks forced the Titans to 23 turnovers.

The second game, on Sunday, December 15th , against Peninsula had a final score of 81-54. Four Hawks went into double figures this game, as Darian Mitchell led with 24 points, followed by Cielo Gonzalez with 20, Mariam Yaro with 15, and Grace Campbell with 11. Lainey Rincon led the team with 5 assists, followed by Grace Campbell and Darian Mitchell with 4 each. Grace Campbell also pulled down 9 rebounds, and three Hawks each had 7: Sienna Riggle, Darian Mitchell, and Mariam Yaro. The Hawks were 13-15 from the free throw line during the game.

The final game of the weekend was against Wenatchee Valley (who the Hawks fell to at the NWAC Championships last year by 4) on Monday, December 16th, and the RiverHawks came through with a final score of 84-70. The first half was a struggle as the Knights were up 21-19. There were also 6 ties and 6 lead changes throughout the game. Cielo Gonzalez scored a career-high 34 points which led the team. She was followed by Darian Mitchell with 16 points, Hunter Boske with 13, and Sienna Riggle with 12. Grace Campbell led the team with 11 rebounds and 7 assists. The Hawks forced the Knights to 16 turnovers.

The RiverHawks return to action on Friday, December 27th at the Red Devil Holiday Classic in Centralia, WA. Their first game is against Centralia at 3pm.
