The Umpqua Community College Department of Athletics has kicked off its annual Champions Read program, beginning at Green Elementary School. Champions Read is a part of the RiverHawk’s Champions in the Community service platform. The UCC student athletes will visit the 1^st grade classrooms at Green Elementary and Winchester Elementary Schools to read to the students, as well as provide a copy of the book that was read to every student. This is the 3^rd year of the Champions Read program for the RiverHawks, and they will visit each school 5 to 6 times throughout the year, providing over 700 free books to the 1^st grade students.
