UCC Names Jacob Whisler as Head Baseball Coach

ROSEBURG, Ore., Jan. 31, 2025—Umpqua Community College has promoted Jacob Whisler to Head Coach of RiverHawk Baseball after serving as an assistant coach for six years.

"Coach Whisler has been an integral part of our program's past successes and is poised to continue our ascent toward building a championship-level program. He brings experience, integrity, and energy to the leadership of the Riverhawks, and we are looking forward to where he and his staff will take us," said UCC Athletic Director Craig Jackson.

Throughout his career, Coach Whisler has worked with athletes at the high school and collegiate levels. Coach Whisler brings a wealth of knowledge to the infield, hitting, and recruiting areas and has demonstrated a passion for helping athletes achieve their personal and team goals.

"My coaching philosophy centers on effort, attitude, and teamwork. Fostering a positive and challenging environment helps athletes grow, not only in their sport but as individuals," said Jacob Whisler.

Coach Whisler is a graduate of Western Oregon University, where he earned his bachelor's degree in Exercise Science with a minor in sports leadership and a master's degree in health education. After playing for the Western Oregon Wolves for 5 years, where he also began his coaching career under Head Coach Kellen Walker. He was the volunteer assistant for 2 seasons before becoming the graduate assistant in 2017. He then moved to Roseburg to start the UCC's first baseball program with Head Coach Jeremiah Robbins, with whom he played for two seasons at Western Oregon University. He has consistently stayed updated on the sport's latest techniques and strategies. He recently earned assistant coach of the year in 2024 for the NWAC South Region.

Coach Whisler and the RiverHawks will open the season at home against Big Bend on Saturday, February 15 in a double-header at 12pm and 3pm, at Champion Carwash Field.
