ROSEBURG, Ore., Feb. 10, 2025—Umpqua Community College has named Chris McCoy as the new Director of Wrestling, bringing a wealth of experience and leadership to both the men's and women's programs.
"Coach McCoy brings energy, passion, and commitment to our Director of Wrestling position. With these attributes, we are looking forward to having well-disciplined, competitive, and hard-working teams that will bring continued, sustained success to UCC Athletics," said UCC Athletic Director Craig Jackson.
With an extensive coaching background, Coach McCoy has mentored athletes at every level, from youth to collegiate and senior-level freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling. His coaching résumé includes developing athletes who have gone on to become national champions, All-Americans, and competitors at top programs such as Oregon State, Cal Poly, Stanford, Iowa, Iowa State, and UCC.
Under Coach McCoy's leadership, the RiverHawks had a strong postseason showing this past weekend, with three men's wrestlers qualifying for the NJCAA National Championships. Both the men's and women's teams will compete in their final regular-season event on Thursday, February 13, at Linfield before heading to the NJCAA National Championships in Council Bluffs, Iowa, on March 7-8.
A lifelong Portland Trail Blazers fan, Coach McCoy is married and the proud father of six daughters.
