Umpqua Communality College Head Track and Field and Cross Country Coach, Alan King, has announced the signing of Derek O'Connor, of Camas Valley High School, to compete for the RiverHawks in both Cross Country and Track and Field.
O'Connor is a multi-sport athlete that participated in both track and field, as well as basketball for the Hornets. He was named Douglas County Male Prep Athlete of the Week for his exploits on the hardwood, for the week of Jan. 4th, 2018.
As a junior, O'Connor finished 6th at the OSAA State Championship in the 1500m and 3rd in the 3000m. He has career bests of 53:49 in the 400m, 2:05.3 in the 800m, 4:22.59 in the 1500m and has run 9:31.43 in the 300m.
Coach King had this to say about the signing of O'Connor, "I am very excited to start the building process here at UCC, and Derek will be a great addition to the program. I believe he has great potential and will develop well over the next couple of years. I am sure he will represent the RiverHawks well."
