The Umpqua Community College Obstacle Course Racing Team kicked off its historic 1^st season with an outstanding opening day of racing on the RiverHawk's "Champions Course", Saturday, September 17^th.  On the men's side, 10 of the first 11 finishers were RiverHawks, paced by William Turner (So., Roseburg, Oregon), who finished the course in 24:13. Hayden Luttrell (So., Roseburg, Oregon), finished 2^nd place in 25:00, while holding off teammate Boone Pearson (Fr., Roseburg, Oregon) who finished slightly behind in 25:01. Mick Davis was the first open runner to complete the course, finishing 8^th, with a time of 28:13.

On the women's side, open runner Lisa Cornutt finished 1^st with a time of 31:01, followed by Umpqua runner Adrionna Taylor (So., Portland, Oregon) who finished in 32:42. Sydney Miele (Fr., Sutherlin, Oregon) was the next highest RiverHawk runner, finishing 6^th, with a time of 39:10.

The course ran slightly over 2 miles in length and feature over 20 obstacles, including 8ft walls, a bucket carry, climbing rig, as well as a 50 ft. horizontal traverse. Twenty-two runners competed on the men's side and nine on the women's side.

The RiverHawks compete again, next Saturday, September 23^rd, when the travel to Salem, Oregon for Race the Inferno.

The RiverHawk Obstacle Course Racing team is the first collegiate team in the country. They will compete in 3 more events this fall, concluding with the AT & T Spartan Sprint in San Francisco, California.  The spring season will consist of 4 races, two being on their own "UCC Champions Course".
