Umpqua Women’s Wrestling Signs California Wrestler

The Umpqua RiverHawk Women’s Wrestling Program is excited to announce the signing of Maricela Ferretiz, from Tracy High School, in Tracy, California. Ferretiz was a 2nd place finisher in the Tri-City Athletic League, as well as the 8th place finisher in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Championships. Ferretiz is a multi-sport athlete, having also participated in soccer, basketball and softball.

UCC Women’s Wrestling Head Coach Asia DeWeese had this to say about the signing of Ferretiz,” Maricela is a hard working athlete who has a big upside. We are looking forward to seeing where she will go in her wrestling career, as she helps to shape our program.”

The Umpqua Women’s Wrestling team has been newly added to the Roseburg, Oregon campus, and will begin competition in the fall of 2017.

Umpqua’s Department of Athletics is composed of nine varsity sports teams including four men's teams (basketball, cross country, wrestling and obstacle course racing), and five women's teams (basketball, cross country, volleyball, wrestling and obstacle course racing). Umpqua is a member of the Northwest Athletic Conference in all sports except men’s and women’s wrestling and obstacle course racing. For men’s wrestling UCC belongs to the National Junior College Athletic Association and for women’s wrestling, the Women’s Collegiate Wrestling Association.
