Barrera Earns NWAC Honors

Barrera Earns NWAC Honors

Andrea Barrera showed out this season earning 3rd Team Honors for the NWAC South Region.

These honors were coupled with her statistical success for this season. Andrea finished 4th in Block Assists, 12th in Total Blocks, 19th in Blocks per Set, and 20th in Kills for the South Region. Barrera overcame a lot of trials to earn this title. The redshirt sophomore could not compete in her 2022 season due to a shoulder injury in early August. She took the year to recuperate and hopefully come back with power in 2023. Barrera did just that. Her stats for the season showcase her unwavering motivation to be the best even while working around her injury.

Coach Roberts comments on her honors saying, "Andrea has been a captain on this team for 2 years. Not because of her skill or her talent, but because she was blessed with determination and the ability to motivate others around her. Her injury provided her the skill to know when to captain her team as a fellow player and when to look outside of this mentality to help them using a 'big picture' point of view. Andrea has made a huge impact on our team and I am grateful to have been a small piece of her success."

Not only did Barrera earn this honor, she also earned her name being in the UCC Record Book for Blocks, Solo Blocks, Block Assists, and Blocks per Set with her match, season, and career highs. In total, Barrera, has earned a spot on 12 categories in the UCC Record Book.

Congratulations Andrea!
