Hawks Take Flight at L&C XC Opener

The RiverHawks Cross Country women's and men's teams officially opened up their season on Thursday, September 1st, in Lake Oswego, OR at the Lewis & Clark XC Opener (Chase Race). The men's race started at 6:45pm and the women's race started promptly 90 seconds later. The course was approximately a 1 mile loop on the Lake Oswego Golf Course. The men raced 4 miles, while the women raced 3 miles. Other teams in the race included University of Oregon, Oregon State, Pacific, Lewis & Clark College, Bushnell, George Fox, and Lane CC.

The women fielded 5 athletes, which allowed them to get a final team score. Making her college debut was freshman Bailey Wallack, who went 19:47 to lead the RiverHawk women. Coming in behind her was sophomores Kristen Thomas (21:39) and Mariah Summers (22:08). Rounding out the top five (also making their collegiate cross country debut) was Emma-Kate Crouse (24:13) and Dawn Cobb (27:41).

The men's team only fielded 4 to finish the race, and did not receive a final team score. The crew was led by sophomore Attreyu Pinard, who went 23:51 over the 4 mile course. Behind him was a close group of 3 RiverHawks, Connor Deveny (FR; 24:47), Paul Cervantes (FR; 25:13), and Noah Retherford (SO; 25:21).

The teams will compete again on Friday, September 16th at the Ash Creek Collegiate Meet hosted by Western Oregon University in Monmouth, OR.
