XC Places 2 in Top 8 at NWAC South Region Championship

The UCC Cross Country teams competed at the NWAC South Region Championships on Saturday, October 29th, hosted at Clackamas Community College in Oregon City, OR. The women's crew took 3rd place in the 5k and the men's crew took 4th in the 8k. There were 36 finishers in the women's race and 33 in the men's race.

The women's squad was lead by both Bailey Wallack and Kristen thomas. Freshman, Wallack had a strong race and took 5th place overall with a personal best time of 20:33. Sophomore, Kristen Thomas, ran her personal best time of 20:49 and took 8th place, an improvement from last year's NWAC South Region Championships where she took 13th overall. Sophomore, Mariah Summers, was the third Hawk to score for the team and she ran a personal best time of 22:30. Following her were freshmen, Emma-Kate Crouse (24:54) and Dawn Cobb (26:59), both ran personal bests to round out the RiverHawks team score of 76 points. The women's crew all ran personal best times and will look strong going into the NWAC Championships in just 2 weeks.

The men's team was led by freshman, Paul Cervantes (30:33), and sophomore, Attreyu Pinard (30:44), who both ran exceptional races, placing 21st and 23rd. Shortly behind them was freshman, Connor Deveny, who placed 27th and ran a personal best time of 31:33. Closing out the Hawks crew was sophomore, Noah Retherford (33:26), and freshman, Aiden Norris (34:50). The Hawks will also look to hold their own going into the NWAC Championships.

The teams will next compete at the NWAC Cross Country Championships on Saturday, November 12th at Chambers Creek Regional Park (Chambers Bay Golf Course) in University Place, WA.
