Men's Wrestling Signs Three

Men's Wrestling Signs Three

Umpqua Community College Men's Wrestling Coach Kyle Temple, is proud to announce the signing of three wrestlers from the state of California for the 2018-2019 season.

Johnny Maldonado comes to UCC from Liberty High School in Bakersfield, California. Johnny is projected to wrestle 133 for the RiverHawks next season. During Johnny's prep career he amassed over 100 career wins, was a 2018 CIF state qualifier at 126 pounds, placed 6th at the Reno Worlds of Wrestling 18u tournament in 2016, was a Kern County Invitational champion and selected as outstanding wrestler for the lower weight divisions. Coach Temple had this to say about Johnny, "Johnny will bring more depth to our lighter weight classes. Originally recruited to wrestle 125 for us Johnny has grown and will help strengthen our line-up at 133 instead. Johnny will make an immediate impact at UCC and is an integral cog in building relationships with the wrestling rich area of Bakersfield, California. Johnny has been competing in MMA as well as continuing to wrestle and I am excited about his passion for combat sports that he will bring to our room."

Nathan Kiddoo comes to UCC from Ramona, California. Nathan is projected to wrestle 125 for the RiverHawks next season. During Nathan's senior season at Ramona High School he was a CIF qualifier at 120 pounds. Nathan placed 6th at the 18u Freakshow, 2nd at the El Cajon Invite, 8th at the Battle for the Belt, 1st at the Holtville Invite, 1st at San Diego Section Division 4, and 4th at San Diego Section Masters. Coach Temple had this to say about Nathan, "I learned about Nathan from his former high school coach Matt Holt. Coach Holt asked me to watch Nate at California State. Knowing that Nathan was a little beat up I saw some great wrestling and loads of potential to strengthen our line-up in the lighter weights. Nathan is a hard worker and has been actively involved in Ramona's youth club as the head coach. Nathan can break down technique better than many high school seniors and is patient in his wrestling. I know he has been trained well and will excel at UCC. Nathan will make our lighter weights better and he has plenty of potential to grow in size before he is done at UCC."

Like Kiddoo, Victor Perez comes to UCC from Ramona, California. Victor is projected to wrestle 125 for the RiverHawks. Victor rounds out a quartet of lighter weights all hailing from California with Johnny Maldonado, Nathan Kiddoo, and Miguel Andrade all joining the RiverHawks next season. During Victor's senior season at Ramona High School he was a CIF qualifier at 113 pounds. Victor placed 5th at the El Cajon Invite, 1st at the Holtville Invite, 1st at San Diego Section Division 4, and 3rd at San Diego Section Masters. Coach Temple had this to say about Victor, "Like Nathan I learned about Victor from his former High School coach Matt Holt. Coach Holt told me about Victor's work ethic and skill. While at California State I got the opportunity to watch Victor and saw a lot of potential. Victor is fast and strong and has good mat awareness. It will be a battle every day in the room at our lighter weights with the addition of Victor to the 2018/2019 RiverHawk wrestling program."
