Umpqua RiverHawk Women’s Wrestling Adds Five for 20-21

The Umpqua RiverHawk Women's Wrestling program is excited to announce the addition of five new wrestlers for the 2020-21 season.

Kaya Akana comes to UCC from Waimea High School in Waimea, Hawaii. Akana is a 4-year letter winner in wrestling and a 3-time KIF District Champion and State Qualifier. She also participated in cross-country, track and field and softball at Waimea. Head Women's Wrestling Coach Craig Jackson had this to say about Akana,"Kaya is experienced and skilled. We are excited to have her in our wrestling room."

Angelina Barrett comes to the RiverHawks from Sutherlin High School. Barrett was a 3-sport athlete, participating also in softball and cheer. She will study criminal justice at UCC, focusing on forensics. Jackson on Barrett," Having local athletes that can contribute to your program is always a bonus. We are looking forward to getting to work with Angelina as she will help improve our depth at the lower weights."

Kaevon Burney completed her first year of wrestling with a 3rd place finish in the Tennessee State Championship. Burney hails from Clarksville High School in Clarksville, Tennessee. "Kaevon is an outstanding athlete who is only going to get better. She is a quick learner and should be a very exciting freestyle wrestler", added Coach Jackson

Maya Lindskog comes from North Eugene High School, in Eugene, Oregon, where she wrestled for 2 years, finishing 4th in the OSAA State Championship. She also played volleyball, lacrosse, football and participated in swimming. She is an honors student who plans to study dentistry. Coach Jackson had this comment on the addition on Lindskog," Maya is another multi-sport athlete who fits into what we are trying to recruit to our program. We love her work ethic and she has a high ceiling in regard to her wrestling future."

Yareli Rendon is a senior at Eureka High School in Eureka, California. Rendon placed 1st in her District meet and was a 7th place finisher in the NCS. "Yareli comes from a very competitive program. She will add depth and will compete to be in our line-up every day. We are excited to have her"' added Coach Jackson.

The Umpqua Community College Women's team is in its 3rd year of existence and finished as the Top-Ranked Community College program in the country. The RiverHawks placed 2nd in the NWCA National Championships, and 8th in the WCWA National Championships. They had 10 All-American placers and 3 National Champions during the 2019-20 season, including Olympic Trial Qualifier Esthela Trevino.
