RiverHawk Women’s Wrestling Adds Four

Umpqua Head Women's Wrestling Coach Craig Jackson is excited to announce the signing of four new wrestlers to join the RiverHawks next fall.

Erica Grant is a senior at Olympia High School in Olympia, WA. Erica took 3rd place at the Washington State Championships. She took second at Northwest Regionals and Freestyle State and participated at Fargo Nationals. She has been wrestling for 7 years. Grant is a multi-sport athlete, participating in football team her sophomore year and Tumwater Equestrian team for 2 years. Head Coach Craig Jackson had this to say about the signing of Grant. "Erica will give us depth in our room and battle for a spot in our line-up. She is a competitor with a high ceiling."

Tiyanna Leal is from Chico, California and wrestled at Durham High School. In addition to wrestling for 3 years, she played basketball and softball at Durham, along with throwing the shot and discus in track. Leal is a two-time California State qualifier. Jackson on Leal" Tiyanna comes from a very good program and is experienced at a high level. We are excited to add her to our room."

 

Karen Bello is from El Modena high School in Orange, California. Bello wrestled all four years in high school and lettered four times. Bello is 4-Time All-Conference, Conference Champion, 3-Time CIF Placer, and finished Top 12 in the southern section. As a senior, she was named Co-League MVP. Karen is also a 3-time Team Captain, and a 2-time Team Conference Champion.  Karen wrestled all four years in high school and lettered all four years. "Karen is skilled and an extremely hard worker. She comes from the same high school program as Abe Jolley and we are looking forward to adding her to our team", said Coach Jackson.

Sofia Poblano is from Oroville, California, and attended Durham High School. Poblano was a 3-sprot athlete, competing volleyball, wrestling, and track and field. In wrestling, Poblano was a 3x Master Qualifier and 1x CA State qualifier. She is a transfer from Butte College and plans to study behavioral psychology/science.  Jackson on Poblano;"Sofia is an experienced, mature wrestler. She has wrestled at a high level in a very competitive part of the state. She will do very good things in our program."

The four wrestlers join 10 freshman who have already signed to wrestle for the RiverHawks during the 2020-21 seeason.

The Umpqua Community College Women's team is in its 3rd year of existence and finished as the Top-Ranked Community College program in the country. The RiverHawks placed 2nd in the NWCA National Championships, and 8th in the WCWA National Championships. They had 10 All-American placers and 3 National Champions during the 2019-20 season, including Olympic Trial Qualifier Esthela Trevino.
