School Records, Personal Bests, and Three Champions at the LCC Open

The UCC Track & Field teams competed at the LCC Open on Saturday, March 11th in Eugene at Lane Community College. The weather was great for an early Spring competition, and the performances showed just that. Three RiverHawks secured wins on the day, a few more school records were broken, and several Hawks hit personal bests (and collegiate bests) in their events.

For the women's crew, Freshman, Rachel Noyce cleared 1.61m/5'3.25" in the high jump, which broke the school record and was a personal best. Shortly after, Sophomore, Whitney Lindsey secured the win in the javelin with an impressive throw of 44.37m/146'3", which also broke her own school record from the previous meet and was a personal best. Whitney also had 5 throws over 40m in her attempts. Also placing in the javelin were freshmen, Madelyn Sharp (7th) and Kylie Rubrecht (8th), who each threw personal bests of 35.80m/117'5" and 35.07m/115'1", respectively. The school record in the hammer throw was broken again this week, but this time by Sophomore, Eve Elmore, who threw a personal best of 41.42m/135'11" and finished 6th overall. In the shot put, Freshman, Kylie Anderson took 6th place with a throw of 11.67m/38'3.5". Both Freshmen pole vaulters, Taylor Heie and Jolyn Vogel-Hunt placed 7th clearing their first height of the year of 2.40m/7'10.5". On the track, Freshman, Bailey Wallack ran the open 400m and placed 5th overall with a time of 1:04.74. Freshman, Gabrielle Hrdlicka broke her own school record in the 100m hurdles with a time of 16.70, good enough for 8th place. Then Hrdlicka went on to run the 400m hurdles for the first time (she ran 300m hurdles in high school), and took 7th overall with a time of 1:11.58.

On the men's side, Sophomore, Colby Neron secured his second collegiate win with a throw of 61.24m/200'11", and he was followed by Freshman, Isaac Heard, who threw a personal best of 55.00m/180'5", good enough for 8th place. Unlike last week with the bizarre wind and rain, all 6 members of the pole vault crew (4 men, 2 women), were able to clear heights. Sophomore, Ashton Wolfe secured 5th place with a jump of 4.21m/13'9.75" and Freshman, James Kelly took 7th with a personal best of 4.06m/13'3.75". On the track, Freshman, Aiden Norris, ran the 110m hurdles (his first time taking on the 42" hurdles) and ran 16.65, which placed him 7th overall.

The RiverHawk Track & Field teams will be back in action this upcoming weekend (Saturday, March 18th), potentially competing in multiple locations, as a select few athletes qualified to compete at the Oregon Preview at the University of Oregon, while the rest of the team will compete at the Rich Allen Classic hosted by George Fox University.
