Leikel Cabrera Signs With RiverHawks Track & Field

Leikel Cabrera Gay from EPEF Manuel Piti Fajardo school in Havana, Cuba but currently residing in Miami, Florida with his family, has signed on with the UCC Track & Field team to throw javelin. We are thrilled to have Leikel join our crew of javelin throwers, and very excited to see what he can do here.

Leikel has had quite the successful javelin career so far, and we are confident his success will continue as he works with UCC Coach "Javelin Jim." Even with the success he has had so far, he still has plenty of room to grow and we're excited to see just how far he can go during his time here at UCC and beyond.

Leikel has a personal best throw of 69.59m/228-3ft. At the 2023 AAU Junior Olympic Games, he took 1st with his PB throw. He took 1st at the 2023 AAU National Championship with a throw of 56.99m, 2nd at the 2023 New Balance Nationals, 1st at the 2023 Cuban Pan-American Games U20 Qualifier with 67.87m, he was the U20 Cuban National Champion in 2023 and 2022 with throws of 61.23m and 63.37m, respectively.

As our RiverHawks have won the men's javelin throw at NWAC Championships the past 2 years, Leikel should fit right in with the crew. His personal best is about 3m farther than Colby Neron's winning throw at the NWAC Championships this year.
