4 South Region Champs for Track & Field

The RiverHawk Track & Field team competed at the South Region Championships hosted by Southwestern Oregon Community College in Coos Bay on Saturday, May 13, 2023. There was not a cloud in sight and the temps were high for the first time all season! The top 5 competitors in each event receive All-South Region honors.

Colby Neron secured the first win of the day for the Hawks by throwing 62.05m/203-7ft in javelin. Teammates Ismayil Abdoulaye (57.54m/188-9ft) and Isaac Heard (50.25m/164-10ft) took 3rd and 4th in javelin. Alex Duguid-Green placed 3rd in both the hammer and discus throws, as he threw 45.76m/149-10ft in hammer and 41.91m/137-6 in discus. James Kelly was the region champion in the decathlon from 2 weeks prior with a score of 5,904 points for the school record. He also took 5th in high jump with a clearance of 1.76m/5-9.25ft, 6th in pole vault with a clearance of 4.21m/13-9.75ft, and 8th in the 100m hurdles with a time of 16.46. Daniel Gee also competed in the decathlon and took 3rd in the region with a score of 5,684 points (which would've also broken the previous school record). He also took 5th in pole vault with a clearance of 4.21m/13-9.75ft. Aiden Norris took 4th in high jump with a jump of 1.81m/5-11.25ft. Connor Deveny and Attreyu Pinard both ran the 5k, as Connor took 4th in 18:17.24 and Attreyu took 5th in 18:27.74. Attreyu also ran the 3k steeplechase and took 5th in a time of 11:13.31. Paul Cervantes ran both the 800m (7th, 2:15.66) and the 1500m (5th, 4:49.82).

Rachel Noyce easily won the high jump with a clearance of 1.59m/5-2.5ft, then took 3rd in long jump with a new personal best of 4.89m/16-0.5ft. Whitney Lindsey won the javelin with a throw of 43.23m/141-10ft, and teammates Madelyn Sharp took 6th (32.18m/105-7ft) and Kylie Rubrecht 7th (32.00m/105ft). Taylor Heie took 3rd in pole vault with a jump of 2.85m/9-4.25ft and 6th in high jump with a clearance of 1.34m/4-4.75ft, which was a new personal best. Eve Elmore took 5th in high jump with a clearance of 1.34m/4-4.75ft as well. Avery Shinkle also competed at the heptathlon 2 weeks prior and took 4th in the region by breaking the school record with 2,918 points. She also placed 8th in the 100m hurdles with a personal best time of 17.67. Kylie Anderson scored in all 3 of her events: 4th in shot put 11.76m/38-7ft (collegiate best mark), 7th in hammer 38.87m/127-6ft, and 8th in discus 31.94m/104-9ft. Brook Stookey threw a new personal best in discus with a throw of 37.12m/121-9ft for 5th, and she threw 10.28m/33-8.75ft in shot put. Kristen Thomas took 4th in the 3k steeplechase with a time of 13:50.56 with Mariah Summers finishing next to her in 5th with a time of 13:51.61. Kristen also ran the 800m and took 7th in 2:40.85 and Emma-Kate Crouse took 8th just behind her in a time of 2:44.40.

The RiverHawks will compete in the final meet of the year at the NWAC Championships hosted at Mt. Hood Community College on Monday and Tuesday, May 22nd-23rd.
