RiverHawks Drop Road Contest to Portland

Despite taking an early lead, the RiverHawk men's basketball team could not sustain the pace as the Panthers of Portland Community College pulled away to a Southern Region road victory by the score of 94-84. The RiverHawks led by 8 points early in the game but foul trouble plagued Umpqua as both Jacob Danhoff and Jouvon Edison both were sent to the bench with fouls.

The Panthers led by 24 in the second half, only to see the RiverHawks come storming back and cut the lead to just 4 points. Ultimately, the effort was too difficult to sustain, as the Panthers controlled the finish from the foul line, out-scoring the RiverHawks 30-17 from the charity stripe.

Timmy Thompson led the RiverHawks with 21 points, followed by Darrin Gethers with 19 and Daniel Reno with 17 points. Jacob Danhoff also scored in double figures with 14 points.

Despite the loss, the RiverHawks still remain in sole possession of 1st place in the Southern Region, with 3 games remaining. They fall to 9-4 in Southern Region play and 17-7 on the season. They host Clark Community College in "Pack the Gym" night, Wednesday, February 22nd, at 7:30 pm.
