RiverHawks Grab Huge Road Win

With the pressure on to secure a NWAC play-off bid and at least a share of the Southern Region Championship, the RiverHawk men of Umpqua Community College came home with a huge 99-96, double overtime victory over the Cougars of Clackamas Community College.

It was a back and forth affair, with the RiverHawks having a chance to win at the end of regulation, but a Jacob Danhoff 3-pt attempt missed the mark and the teams ended regulation tied at 75. The first overtime period saw the Cougars grab the lead and run out by as many as 7 points, only to see the RiverHawks come storming back. Buoyed by two steals off of a smothering press and some timely baskets, the RiverHawks tied the game at the end of the first overtime 85-85. The second overtime saw the RiverHawks jump to a 6 point lead, only to see the Cougars storm back to tie up the game. Umpqua took the final three point lead at 99-96 with 2.6 seconds left at watched a desperation heave by the Cougars fall short.
 
The RiverHawks were led by Jacob Danhoff with 27 points and 9 rebounds, followed by Darrin Gethers with 19, Timmy Thompson with 19, Jouvon Edison with 17 and Grant Ellison with 12 points. Timmy Thompson led UCC with 9 assists.
With the win, Umpqua is guaranteed at least a share of the Southern Region Championship. They move to 10-5 in conference play and 18-8 overall.
