Umpqua Men’s Basketball Signs 2-Time All-State Player

The Umpqua Community College Men’s Basketball program is proud to announce the signing of Elko, Nevada, senior Eric Klekas. Klekas is a 6’1” senior guard from Elko High School. Where he was named as the 3A North Division League MVP during both his junior and senior seasons. He also received 1st team All-State recognition both years.

The multi-talented guard averaged nearly 23 points per game over his last two high school seasons, while averaging nearly 4 assists during the same span. He hit 187 three-point shots during those two years and hit them at nearly a 44% clip. His team finished 25-3 during his senior campaign.

UCC Men’s Basketball Coach Daniel Leeworthy had this to say about the addition of Klekas,” Eric is the son of a coach and has a very good basketball IQ.  He knows and feels the game really well.  He reminds me of Jimmer Fredette in the way he can create his own shot and shoot it from deep.  He will fit in well with our high octane offense on the wing.”

Umpqua’s Department of Athletics is composed of nine varsity sports teams including three men's teams (basketball, cross country, and wrestling), and four women's teams (basketball, cross country, and volleyball). Umpqua is a member of the Northwest Athletic Conference in all sports except men’s and women’s wrestling and obstacle course racing. For men’s wrestling they belong to the National Junior College Athletic Association and for women’s wrestling, the Women’s Collegiate Wrestling Association.
