RiverHawks Soar at OSU PNW Invite

The RiverHawk Track and Field teams had a great showing at the OSU PNW Invite on Saturday, March 16th. They couldn't ask for better weather as temps stayed in the mid-60s and there wasn't a cloud in sight the entire day. The Hawks picked up 4 individual wins, broke 2 school records, and established 19 new personal bests. The men finished 4th of 11 teams and the women finished 8th.

On the men's side, James Kelly got the day started for the Hawks with a win in the pole vault by clearing of 4.70m/15-5ft, breaking the school record that was set just last week by Daniel Gee. Jimmy is now leading the NWAC in the event, with Dan in the number two spot. Leikel Cabrera-Gay finished the day off for the Hawks with a win in the javelin and a new personal best throw of 70.78m/232-2ft, he also leads the NWAC in the event. Xavier Hills had another solid performance for the weekend as he took 1st in the triple jump with another school record jump of 14.39m/47-2.5ft, he is leading the NWAC. Xavier also finished 3rd in the long jump with a mark of 6.52m/21-4.75ft. Okenoko Pascall threw a new personal best in discus, good enough to finish in 2nd on the day with a throw of 45.34m/148-9ft. Daniel Gee had a 3rd place finish in the pole vault with a jump of 4.40m/14-5.23ft. Ismayil Abdoulaye threw another personal best of 63.03m/206-9 in the javelin to finish in 4th, he is ranked seocnd behind Leikel in the NWAC. Tarron Metz has shown consistency in clearing heights and placing at each meet, this time with a clearance of 4.10m/13-5.25ft to tie for 4th. Angel Mendoza (3.80m/12-5.5) and Landen Salley (3.65m/11-11.75ft) also placed in the pole vault, taking 6th and 7th, respectively. Oluwatomiwa Olubisi (Tommie) had two strong performances in the 100m and 200m, finishing 7th in both at 11.22 and 23.09, establishing new personal best times in each. Ethan Sumpter had a good showing in the javelin with an 8th place finish and new best of 52.17m/171-2ft. A few others had notable performances as Okenoko Pascall finished 9th in the shot put with a new personal best of 13.38m/43-10.75ft, Irafasha Rodrigue and Elijah Mojica both ran new bests in the 1500m, going 4:24.57 and 4:28.05. Joshua Godfrey also threw two new bests in the discus and hammer throws.

On the women's side, Kylie Anderson had a big performance in the shot put, with a throw of 11.94m/39-2.25ft, which was a new personal best that won the event. Gabrielle Hrdlicka had a 6th place finish and new personal best in the high jump by clearing 1.40m/4-7ft, then ran the 400mH in 1:17.08 to finish 7th. Taylor Heie cleared her first heights of the season in pole vault, jumping 3.30m/10-10ft, matching her personal best. Talia Hosford improved her shot put mark from the previous week with 9.94m/32-7.5 and finished 7th. Kylie Rubrecht threw another personal best in the javelin of 35.65m/116-11ft to finish 8th. Kylie Anderson also had a new personal best throw in hammer and came in 8th with a throw of 41.19m/135-1ft. Other notable performances were by Amy Barnwell and Talia Hosford in the hammer throw, as they both threw personal bests, going 37.22m/122-1ft and 32.94m/108-1ft to finish 10th and 11th, respectively. Mia McCormack ran a personal best of 2:42.29 in the 800m.

The RiverHawks will have a split weekend as most of the team will be competing at the Willamette Invitational on Saturday, March 23rd, while 6 athletes will compete at the Oregon Preview on Friday and Saturday, March 22nd and 23rd. After the Oregon Preview, the multi-events athletes will compete at the Pacific Multis on Sunday and Monday, March 24th-25th.
