Hawks Compete at John Knight Twilight

RiverHawk Track and Field took flight on Friday, April 5th at the John Knight Twilight hosted by Western Oregon University in Monmouth. The men's team took 4th overall and the women's team took 10th. The day brought sunshine, clouds, wind, and rain throughout. 

After a rain delay in pole vault, Daniel Gee and Tarron Metz took a tie for 1st, clearing 4.45m/14-7.25ft. Xavier Hills placed 2nd in triple jump, going 13.80m/45-3.5ft. Travis Tyler made his individual event debut, taking 2nd in the 200m with a time of 22.40, ranking 4th in the NWAC. In the 110m hurdles, James Kelly ran 15.47 to take 3rd and established a new personal best. Kelly is currently ranked 3rd in the NWAC in the event and hit the auto-qualifying standard for the NWAC Championships. Oluwatomiwa Olubisi placed 3rd in the 400m with a personal best time of 51.45. Okenoko Pascall threw the discus 43.83m/143-9ft to place 4th. Isaac Heard (53.47m/175-5ft) and Ethan Sumpter (52.65m/172-5ft) represented the team in the javelin, placing 3rd and 4th respectively, and a new best for Sumpter. Will Hills competed in the triple jump, jumping 13.43m/44-0.75ft to place 5th. Travis Tyler ran the 100m and took 7th with a time of 10.98, which puts him 4th in the NWAC in this event as well. Tyler is now automatically qualified for NWAC Championships in both events. Oluwatomiwa Olubisi had a 7th place finish in the 200m, running 23.13, just shy of his best. In shot put, Okenoko Pascall had two throws over his personal best, with his top throw going 14.11m/46-3.5ft and placing 7th. Ethan Bastian ran his second steeplechase race of the year, this time with a faster time of 11:02.17. Will Hills also secured a team point in the long jump, as he went 6.17m/20-3ft for an 8th place finish. Notably, there were five other athletes who set personal bests in their respective events: Isaiah Bloom (400m), Irafasha Rodrigue (1500m), Connor Deveny (5000m), Kristofer Aguirre (5000m), and Joshua Godfrey (hammer). 

On the women's side, four Hawks scored points for the team. Kylie Anderson was just short of her personal best in the shot put, throwing 11.81m/38-9ft to place 3rd. Madelyn Sharp (34.44m/113-0ft) and Kylie Rubrecht 33.15m/108-9ft) both threw the javelin and placed 6th and 7th, respectively. Taylor Heie rounded out the points for the Hawks as she cleared 2.80m/9-2.25ft in pole vault to place 7th. Notably, Amy Barnwell threw a new personal best in hammer, throwing 39.84m/130-8ft, and finishing 9th of 24 competitors. Barnwell has now hit the NWAC Championships auto-qualifying standard for the event.

The team will compete again on Saturday, April 13th at the Titan Invite hosted by Lane CC in Eugene.
