Three Wins and a School Record Set at the Raider Invite

The RiverHawks had a great day on the field side of the sport at the Raider Invite last weekend, with three big wins that lead the NWAC and a school record in pole vault. The conditions were great with high temperatures each day, sun shining, and tailwind when we needed it. 

On the men's side, James Kelly cleared a new personal best and school record of 5.00m/16-4.75ft to win the event. James continues to lead the NWAC in the event and ranks 3rd overall amongst junior college athletes. Daniel Gee and Tarron Metz tied for 3rd in pole vault, as they both cleared 4.70m/15-5ft, they're also tied for 3rd in the NWAC as they both jumped personal bests on the day. Leikel Cabrera-Gay had a dominate performance in the javelin with each throw topping the 2nd place finisher, and his best being 73.58m/241-5ft. Leikel has the top mark in the NWAC, and is ranked 18th amongst all collegiate athletes in the US. Finishing 3rd in the javelin was Ismayil Abdoulaye with a personal best throw of 64.55m/211-9ft, he's currently ranked 2nd in the NWAC. Ethan Sumpter also had a personal best in javelin with a throw of 57.29m/187-11ft for 5th place, which moves him into 3rd in the NWAC rankings. In 7th place in javelin was Isaac Heard, throwing a season best of 55.00m/180-5ft. James Kelly also had a 5th place finish in triple jump on Friday night, making his season debut in the event with a jump of 12.98m/42-7ft. Okenoko Pascall took care of business in the shot put and discus with 5th (13.75m/45-1.5ft) and 6th (43.54m/142-10ft) place finishes, respectively. Notably, there were three other personal bests for the men over the weekend with Jacob Loudenslager in the 1500m, Irafasha Rodrigue in the 800m, and Joshua Godfrey in the hammer throw. 

On the women's side, Madelyn Sharp pulled off a win in the javelin with a throw of 36.43m/119-6ft, currently ranking 4th in the NWAC. Just behind her was Kylie Rubrecht with a 5th place finish, with a throw of 34.23m/112-4ft, currently ranking 6th in the NWAC. Kylie Anderson had a throw of 11.77m/38-7.5ft in the shot put to finish 3rd on the day. Placing in two seperate events was Rachel Noyce as she took 5th in high jump with a clearance of 1.52m/4-11.75ft and 8th in long jump with a mark of 4.54m/14-10.75ft. On the track, Lexi McWilliam was the sole placer for the Hawks with an 8th place finish of 21:35.30. Notably, three women had personal best performances over the weekend with Male'ata Snuka Polamalu in the discus, and both Mia McCormack and Gabrielle Hrdlicka in the 800m.

Some of the Hawks have a busy weekend ahead as qualifiers will compete at the Oregon State High Performance Meet on Friday and Saturday, April 26th and 27th, then on Monday and Tuesday, April 29th and 30th, James Kelly, Daniel Gee, and Rachel Noyce will compete at the NWAC Multi-Events Championships at Lane CC. The rest of the team will have the weekend off.
