RiverHawks Take Flight at Pacific Open

The RiverHawk Track and Field teams competed at the Pacific Open on Saturday, March 30, 2024. The Hawks lucked out with warm weather over the weekend and calm winds throughout the day. Ismayil Abdoulaye picked up his first collegiate win in the javelin and the 4x100 relay team broke the school record to highlight the meet for the Hawks.

On the men's side, Ismayil Abdoualye lead all Hawks with a win in javelin. Ismayil threw 59.86m/196'5 to win the day. The 4x100m relay crew finished 2nd overall with a school record time of 41.91. The relay consisted of Ezekiel Wright, Will Hills, Oluwatomiwa Olubisi, and Travis Tyler, three of which making their debuts for the Hawks, and now ranking 2nd in the NWAC. Will Hills also competed in the triple jump, going 14.04m/46-0.75ft, to take 3rd overall. Tarron Metz had a great day in pole vault as he jumped a new PR, clearing 4.48m/14-8.25ft as he took 3rd overall and was the top collegiate athlete in the event. Okenoko Pascall competed in his usual double of shot put (13.74m/45-1ft) and discus (41.12m/134-11ft), taking 3rd in shot and 6th in discus. His shot put throw was a new PR. The Hawks ran the second 4x400m relay of the year, this time improving their time by 9 seconds, as they switched up the group with Ezekiel Wright, Oluwatomiwa Olubisi, Elijah Mojica, and Travis Tyler competing. The Hawks were just shy of the school record, running 3:30.69 and taking 3rd in the competition. The Hawks 4x400m relay team now ranks 2nd in the NWAC. Angel Mendoza got on new poles in the pole vault competition and finished in 8th with a clearance 4.03m/13-2.5ft (collegiate best). Notably, Elijah Mojica, Jacob Loudenslager, and Irafasha Rodrigue all ran new bests in the 800m, all 3 ranking in the top 18 of the NWAC. Joshua Godfrey also threw a new personal best in the hammer throw.

On the women's side, Madelyn Sharp had a standout performance to finish 4th in the javelin as she threw 3m over her previous best. Madelyn had a great field series overall, with her best throw being 38.44m/126'1. She now ranks 2nd in the NWAC. Kylie Anderson had a solid showing in the shot put with a throw of 11.16m/36-7.5ft to finish 6th in a loaded field. Notably, Mia McCormack also ran a PR in the 800m and moved up in NWAC rankings.
